CRD III on remuneration policies (and local adaptations)
Following the recent financial crisis, the European Parliament approved the CRD III in 2010, addressing inter alia remuneration policies within credit institutions and investment firms. The EU has ruled that certain bonus awards must be deferred and paid out no earlier than pro rata over three years after earning the bonus. Furthermore 50 % of the bonus shall be paid in shares or other equity instruments (options, SARs etc.) closely linked to the performance of the company. This is classified as share based payment under IFRS-2 and must be accounted for as such.
